My " Bells Galore Dining Ensemble" is made from Pat Campbell's "Ice" by Timeless Treasures. This fabric is covered with lots of sparkles some of which have a tendency to fall or rub off. I didn't want all of my other quilts to be covered with these sparkles so I made a 'quilt coat' to cover Bells Galore . To keep it fast and simple I used the selvages rather than hemming. It was a fast and easy project.
Quilt to be protected.
2 pants hangers have been attached to the top edge.
Fold quilt in half. Pants hangers are side by side.
Pull quilt coat over the top, sliding the hanger tops through the opening.
Materials: 1 1/8 yards muslin
Cutting: 1 rectangle - 38" x width of muslin
Sewing: Stitch a flat feld seam along the cut edges by placing the cut edges together. Stitch using a 1/4" seam allowance. Trim seam to 1/8" inch after sewing . Turn tube wrong side out. Stitch same edge as before using a 1/4" seam allowance.
Leaving the tube wrong side out, Stitch a split seam across the top edge. Leave approximately 3" unstitched in the middle. These seams will not have to be finished as they are the selvage.
Turn quilt coat right side out. The bottom is also a selvage edge so that will not have to be hemmed. Your quilt coat is now ready to use.
